BATH NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY
BY JOANNA OSBORNE A BATH NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER
I get quite a few enquiries about Newborn Photography in Bath so I though I shall write a page about the Newborn photography service I supply in the Bath area.
My diary as a Bath Newborn Photographer and baby photographer is a complicated place! Nobody told your baby that they are expected to turn up for their portrait session and while some can’t wait to get here, some are fashionably late. This makes my diary a wonderfully fluid place!
I take a limited number of newborn sessions each month so that I can ensure I can fit everybody in and work around midwife and health visitor appointments once baby is here.
Once your baby arrives and you have settled back in at home just [give me a call/email me/message me] and we can then confirm the best date and time for your session.
Your Bath Newborn Photography session will take place in my comfortable purpose designed studio based outside Malmesbury in a Village lending itself to a relaxed atmosphere. Newborn studios are not like traditional photography studios - they are designed to be warm and comfortable with a temperature of 25-29 degrees. I want you and your baby to feel relaxed and comfortable so you are able to feed on demand and put your feet up with refreshments and a magazine (I even have some new dads who take a quick nap!)
When you arrive you can relax, have a drink and get settled whilst I go over the health and safety policy with you. I always have a session plan arranged before your photoshoot. I will discuss this with you to make sure you are happy with the arrangements I have made.
Newborn sessions take the longest to do and the longest to edit. They can often take a long time until they sleep quite often because they have slept on the way here in the car. Do not worry eventually they will.
The props are expensive as they are hand made for purpose. I have lots of background choices, beautiful hand knitted mohair outfits, baby baskets and delicate soft lace knitted blankets to create some beautiful Newborn Baby Photography for you to treasure for a life time. You do not need to bring anything but if you have a favourite blanket or perhaps something special to you we can try to incorporate it into a photo.
As a mummy I know how precious your little newborn is to you. I can assure you having a baby myself and being a qualified member of the MPA and a member of BANPAS your baby is in safe hands. I will not put your newborn in any dangerous situations. When you see a baby hanging is a basket or dream catcher this is a composite image. A baby was never left hanging in a basket. This is part the reason why the editing takes so long after.
The comfort of your baby is of upmost importance to me. Some babies do not like being on their sides, some hate being on their tummies. It becomes quite apparent early on as to what they are not happy with and I will not push them if they are not happy. There is enough other poses we can do instead.
Newborn photography is best taken within the first two weeks of your baby being born. This is because after this period they tend to be awake more so are harder to settle and pose them. Many of the poses after the first two weeks become uncomfortable for the baby, and their reflexes become more developed adding to additional safety concerns.
You can of course include sibling and mum and dad poses in your session. I tend to do the sibling poses earlier on once we have done the first set up of the newborn photos else they soon loose interest. The Family poses I do at the end as it is less important for the newborn to be asleep then.
I have a play room here a garden outside and a park round the corner so there is plenty to keep your toddler entertained.
Your newborn will want feeding and cuddling thoughout and this is not a problem as there is no time limit on my session. Most of the time you are here will be spent sitting around chatting and cuddling and settling your newborn. They very much lead the session they will not do anything they don't want to do.
So that I can capture your baby perfectly while they are still so brand new, for most of the session your baby will be in their birthday suit. Newborn clothes never fit correctly so we don’t get to see all those beautiful details that say ‘hey I’m brand new!’
However, one of the downsides of this, is your baby is guaranteed to poop and/or pee on props, blankets, perhaps even me or you! This is just par for the course, something I’m used to dealing with on a daily basis and something I allow for. All of my blankets and props are washed after each session.
I hope after seeing my Bath Newborn Photography and reading this you will be convinced to choose me as your Bath Newborn Photographer.
A days bespoke photo shoot costs £100. This includes my time both on the day and editing after, use of all the props and editing all the images for you to choose from. This needs to be paid prior to your session by using the booking form below or by bank transfer (Please contact me for details). I am afraid I have had to many people not turn up or cancel the day before. I have to arrange child care
and obviously I keep that day free for you and not take another booking. I can no longer risk everyones time being wasted so it is important you pay the session fee before hand.
After your session we will go though the photos together and you will select the final 20 images you would like edited. I will whats app them to you to check before I send the USB via post. The cost of the final images edited is £250. This needs to be paid on the day. Unfortunately I have had one customer ruin it for everyone where I whats apped the images for her to check then she did not pay so now sadly I have to ask for the final payment to be made on the day of the session. Such a shame as it was the first time it has happened in three years!
